Fostering Sustainability

Did you know that we use rPET to make the inside of our nappies? We are making every effort possible to promote sustainability.

Opting for reusable alternatives has consistently proven to be a sustainable choice. Furthermore, we are now manufacturing these products using recycled materials such as rPET. This approach prevents them from contributing to the pollution of our planet, which would have been the case otherwise.

So what is rPET?

rPET stands for “recycled polyethylene terephthalate.” This type of plastic results from recycling used PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles and other plastic products.. The recycling process involves cleaning and melting down the plastic, which can then be used to make a variety of new products, such as containers, packaging, textiles, and other consumer goods. Using recycled plastics in the production of products can help to reduce waste and minimize the environmental impact of plastic production.

How does Sassibums incorporate it into their products?

rPET materials are collected and cleaned.

Melt and extrude the rPET to create thin plastic film.

Laminate the rPET film with a layer of polyurethane to make it waterproof and breathable.

Dry and finish the PUL fabric by pressing and coating it to improve its properties.

Overall, the production of PUL fabric from rPET involves several steps, from collecting and cleaning the materials to creating the final fabric through lamination and finishing.

By incorporating recycled plastics into our products, we aim to contribute towards mitigating the plastic pollution issue. Although our ideal scenario would be a plastic-free world. We take pride in the fact that we can help reduce our product’s ecological footprint. We encourage our consumers to make informed decisions for a healthier future.
